{"id":321,"date":"2008-09-10T03:02:00","date_gmt":"2008-09-10T08:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.wordpress.com\/2008\/09\/10\/tortilla-cinnamon-crisps\/"},"modified":"2008-09-10T03:02:00","modified_gmt":"2008-09-10T08:02:00","slug":"tortilla-cinnamon-crisps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.com\/index.php\/2008\/09\/10\/tortilla-cinnamon-crisps\/","title":{"rendered":"Tortilla Cinnamon Crisps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I wrote about making deep fried tacos.&#160; When ever I do this, I always make Tortilla Cinnamon Crisps. <\/p>\n<p>I hardly ever deep fry anything, so when I make the tacos, I always make Tortilla Cinnamon Crisps with the leftover tortillas. <\/p>\n<p>These were always available at the Mexican restaurants I grew up with &#8212; as a dessert or as a snack.&#160; Even Taco Bell has something similar, though I don&#8217;t think they use tortillas, but some sort of light, fried dough, iirc. <\/p>\n<p>These are great on their own, but so good with vanilla ice cream, or served with baked apples. <\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"wlWriterSmartContent\" id=\"scid:8747F07C-CDE8-481f-B0DF-C6CFD074BF67:02b994dd-ead9-4df2-a99b-249f7bae2d92\" style=\"display:inline;float:none;margin:0;padding:0;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/09\/cinnamoncrisps8x6.jpg\" title=\"\" rel=\"thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/09\/cinnamoncrisps.png\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<h2>Tortilla Cinnamon Crisps <\/h2>\n<p>2-3 Tortillas, cut into strips    <br \/>2 Tablespoons Cinnamon     <br \/>1\/2 cup Sugar     <br \/>Hot oil for frying <\/p>\n<p>Slice the tortillas in strip.&#160; If they are too long for your pot, cut them in&#160; half. <\/p>\n<p>Heat the oil, and fry the tortilla pieces, until golden brown on&#160; both sides.&#160; Flip once during frying.&#160; Remove from the hot oil, drain for a second or two, and then immediately put into the cinnamon\/sugar mixture.&#160; Cover and remove to plate.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>Serve hot, warm, or room temp.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>Notes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These are fine left over for another day \u2013 just allow to cool, and then place in a tightly sealed bag or container.<\/li>\n<li>Serve on their own, with Vanilla Ice cream, baked apples, hot chocolate..the options are endless. <\/li>\n<li>If you slice the tortillas in a pretty design &#8212; an &#8216;s&#8217; shape, for example, they look lovely served next to a nicely plated dessert.&#160; I served these once with a baked apple, directly in the middle of a wide, shallow dish, with a scoop of ice cream, and the crisps pushed into the ice cream, with a drizzle of hot caramel.&#160; Absolutely yummy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I wrote about making deep fried tacos.&#160; When ever I do this, I always make Tortilla Cinnamon Crisps.
