{"id":326,"date":"2008-09-17T05:59:59","date_gmt":"2008-09-17T10:59:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.wordpress.com\/2008\/09\/17\/autumn-hot-spiced-mulled-cider\/"},"modified":"2008-09-17T05:59:59","modified_gmt":"2008-09-17T10:59:59","slug":"autumn-hot-spiced-mulled-apple-cider","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.com\/index.php\/2008\/09\/17\/autumn-hot-spiced-mulled-apple-cider\/","title":{"rendered":"Autumn Hot Spiced Mulled Apple Cider"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Autumn is here and it\u2019s time for apples, and apple cider.\u00a0 This is one of my very favorite times of the year, and this recipe gets served in my house from about now, until Christmas.\u00a0 Cool Autumn weekends, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas \u2013 they just are not complete without mulled cider.<\/p>\n<p>Below is the version of mulled cider that I have used a lot over the years.\u00a0 The nice thing about this recipe is that you can leave out ingredients you might not have on hand, and it still comes out pretty well.\u00a0 The only thing that is really necessary is the cider, cloves and cinnamon.\u00a0 And even then, if you don\u2019t have cloves, you can leave that out, too.<\/p>\n<p>I like to serve this just as is \u2013 in good sized mug \u2013 one that isn\u2019t too big, or too small.\u00a0 Once it is strained to remove the spices, you can put it into a thermos and take it with you on Halloween, or while cutting down your Christmas tree.<\/p>\n<p>This can be made, and then re-heated easily.\u00a0 Just pour into a pitcher, or a serving container of some sort and refrigerate.\u00a0 Either warm in a pot on the stove, or a mug in the microwave.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/09\/applecider.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right:0;border-top:0;border-left:0;border-bottom:0;\" title=\"applecider\" src=\"http:\/\/thisfoodthing.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/09\/applecider-thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"applecider\" width=\"245\" height=\"351\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Autumn Hot Spiced Mulled Cider<\/h2>\n<p>1 gallon Apple Cider<br \/>\n12 Whole Cloves<br \/>\n2-3 cinnamon sticks<br \/>\n2 whole nutmeg<br \/>\n2 chunks crystallized ginger<br \/>\n1\/2 lemon, sliced<br \/>\n1 tablespoon honey<\/p>\n<p>Add Cider, clove and cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger to a large pot. Slice lemon into wedges, remove the seeds, and add them to pot.\u00a0 Add honey.<\/p>\n<p>Stir to combine and begin simmering, stirring occasionally.\u00a0 You can simmer this for 10 minutes to 2 hours.\u00a0 The longer (up to 2 hours) you simmer this, the better the flavors meld.
